Once again Oreston Bowls Club hosted it's annual Captain's Day, a fun filled day with games and a pasty for club members and their partners to enjoy. As usual the frivolity ensued and everyone had a good time playing games that are designed to test all aspects of your bowling skills but at the same time giving you and your teams a bonding experience that brings out the best in this club. The raffle was a great success as usual and the spider game was won by Hamish Stewart who won a £20 Gift Card and a special prize donated by one of our Life Members (Jameson Whiskey) was won by Ruth Thomas.
For the first time in Oreston Bowls Club's recent history, we managed to battle our way into a cup final. At times the journey was controversial and played on very sub-standard surfaces that would usually not be fit for friendly matches let alone competition matches. Nevertheless we got there as a team and enjoyed every single minute of the process, sadly the final was one match too far and we were unable to get over the line for our first victory. The team did itself proud though and the final score was a respectable 68 to 48 in the favour of Co-op Unity Park, congratulations to the winners and thank you for a most enjoyable experience. We now look forward to next year.
The Tony Hill Memorial day was conceived in 2023 when Tony's wife Dyllis donated a trophy to the club in order for us to play a fun filled event to remember a much loved member that sadly left us far to early due to Prostate Cancer. The Memorial day quickly became an event to remember more members that left us far too soon, it has now become a day of remembrance and thanks for the enjoyment we all get playing bowls at this club. We play this game annually as a mark of respect and as a team bonding exercise to bring us all together under the badge of Oreston & District Bowls Club.
A big thank you must go to our two captain's Terry & Sallie Hodgett, they organised and delivered an event this year that both honours our past members and encourages our existing members to enjoy playing bowls as members of this great club. Thank you for taking part.
We held a second open eveining for recruitment of new members, thankfully the weather was nice and the evening was as successful as the first with a number of prospective new members. Check out our gallery of images from the event.
